*** K.B. Murr - Ludwig I

More on the government and policies of King Louis (Ludwig) I of Bavaria than on the Monarch's life in this concise biography by Dr. Karl Murr in the interesting series 'Kleine Bayerische Biografien' of Friedrich Pustet Verlag.King Louis I (1786-1868) is often judged on the basis of his patronage of the arts and his legacy of impressive public buildings in Bavaria. Murr also takes the King's 'Realpolitik' into account. He concludes that Louis' rule was full of contradictions. One of the most consistent traits of Louis was his religiously inspired idea of Monarchy. He regarded his kingship as a divine calling, and upholding the Constitution first and foremost as a religious duty, to which he was bound by sacred oath.
